Can’t you just make it out of really large diameter rigatoni spray painted grey?
![]() 07/19/2018 at 17:44 |

As long as you don’t cook it past al dente, you’re good to go

Tell him to g o for it, just make sure there’s a quick access panel for a fire hose to wash out the inside after a wreck.

As long as you have a minimum of three layers of duct tape and one zip tie, you’re all set. The FIA, however, no longer recognizes PVC and super glue as valid roll protection material.

Because they’re Europeans and hate freedom

Use PVC for weight savings

Yeah, this would probably be a no-go all across the board.

If he uses 2" conduit it’ll be almost as strong as 3/4 tube, and lighter.
/quasi-valid engineering advice that is worse than useless

3/4”... oof, you’re very dead

I hope Lucas isn’t taking his baby for a ride, and that he has an updated will.

Soooooooo, what if i filled the insides of the tubes with concrete. That should make them stronger.

Somebody needs to set this moran straight. The correct process is to start with a slinky, and weld it into place.
It gets its stren
gth from being one solid piece.
No chopping!

I sincerely hope that this person will get some advice before a Darwin award.

I was hoping someone would catch that part

He got lots of advice. He didn't like it

Fair question. Glad he asked.
But the way he capitalized HAVE makes me a little nervous. He REALLY wants to chop and weld.

Why are the people that 1) think this is a good idea 2) conduct research via Facebook, always so fertile?

Their idea is not wrong, the execution is really bad though. Miter cuts with a proper bulkhead in the joint is a method used in Desert racing for main rails and such, when done correctly miters can work very well.
A full cage of 3/4" tubing is terrible, but for a lightweight Autocross vehicle like an A-Mod it could be used to supplement main 1" tubing for less critical areas. For a Rally car it’s a terrible idea anywhere, bar none.
